Oxford is the home of rowing, with the tradition of racing dating back to the early 19th century
Your programme is a custom-made, accelerated learn-to-row course, where you will row with current Oxford students while being coached by world-class coaches
The programme will culminate in a side-by-side race on the famous stretch of the river Thames in Oxford
Take part in interactive workshops based on the pioneering research of the Oxford Character Project, focusing on character, leadership, purpose and performance
Reflect on these concepts and the latest academic research in small group settings built on the tradition of tutorial lessons in Oxford
Explore the concepts of leadership and character with current Oxford students, helping to develop their perspectives and learn what motivates and inspires this next generation of leaders
Every day we will be joined by inspiring sports men and women who draw on their experiences to inform a discussion on the lessons we can learn from the world of sport
Hear about individual and team performance, how to achieve sustained success, the concept of identity and performance, team selection, team dynamics, and many other concepts learned, applied and honed through sport

The mission of the Oxford Sports Leadership Lab is to connect sport and education to create opportunities on both a local and global level.
The funds from your participation on this course will contribute towards the running of two sport & education projects
The first is an innovative pilot community project in Oxford, working in the first instance with one of the most disadvantaged schools in the local area
The second is another pilot project working in partnership with Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, connecting sport and education with a community of refugees
Dr Edward Brooks is the Executive Director of the Oxford Character Project, where he leads an interdisciplinary group of researchers exploring the theory and practice of character and leadership development around the world. He is the co-founder of the Oxford SDG Impact Lab and Oxford Global Leadership Initiative, an award-winning leadership programme for graduate students from across the University of Oxford. He was recently recognised by Thinkers 50 as one of 30 global thinkers to watch in leadership and management.
Lam Joar is the Project Manager for the Oxford Sports Leadership Lab where he is applying his lived experience as a manager for the Refugee Olympic Team at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Lam is an Oxford graduate whose life story has taken him from fleeing war in South Sudan to the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya to the University of Oxford via the Olympic Games.
Christine Cavallo is the engagement coordinator for the UN Global Compact Network USA. She attended the University of Oxford, graduating with a degree in Sustainability, Enterprise, and the Environment. She has been rowing internationally for the USA since her first team as a junior in 2008.
Oliver Cook is the Programme Manager for the Oxford Sports Leadership Lab and has been working for Oxford University for two years where he helped create the Oxford SDG Impact Lab, a fellowship programme for Oxford students to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Before Ollie came to Oxford, he spent nine years as part of Great Britain’s Olympic Rowing Team
The Oxford Sports Leadership Lab is working with Greyfriars School in central Oxford to pilot a sports & education programme for children aged between 11 - 14 years old
The Oxford Sports Leadership Lab is working in partnership with Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya with a project connecting sport and education with a community of refugees

We have two confirmed retreats and are looking to organise a further two
The first one will be from Tuesday 5th March - Saturday 9th March
The second one will be from Tuesday 12th March - Saturday 16th March
We are looking to run the second two retreats in late May & early June
The retreats are designed for men and women of YPO chapters who are interested in learning about leadership, like the challenge of learning a new sport and want to engage with current students
The programme can be tailored around the fitness level of those participating and we are keen to ensure that all those interested in taking part can be accommodated for
The University is developing both local and global focused sport and education projects working in the first instance with Greyfriars School in Central Oxford and in the second instance with the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. The idea is that the revenue generated from the YPO programmes will be used to support these two projects
You will need to bring a combination of sports clothes & smart casual business attire. We will provide some rowing kit and a rented black tie for the formal dinner
Applications for the retreats will open on the 1st August 2023 and close on the 1st October 2023. We will review the applications and make an offer as soon as time permits. You will then have a week to confirm by paying the full amount
All is set out in the terms & conditions. You are entitled to a full refund within 14 days of accepting the offer after this you will be due to pay the full course fees
